The Founding Headmaster of Iwama Shin-Shin Aik Shuren-kai, Hitohiro Saito, son of Morihiro Saito was born in February 12, 1957 in Iwama, Japan. He began learning Aikido at the age of seven directly from Morihei Ueshiba known as O’Sensei. After Ueshiba’s death in 1969, he continued his education from his father, Morihiro Saito which was a main student and a true disciple of him.
He spent much time in that moment studying religions of all denominations and specially Omoto-Kyo which really influenced O’Sensei as well. He was interested into traditional calligraphy in which he learnt from one of O’Sensei‘s students Abe Sensei.
Until his father’s death in May 2002, he gave lesson weekly in Tokyo dojo and at the same time trained in the Iwama dojo. He appears in many of his father’s published works not only as opponent but as an expertise as well.
Hitohiro Saito is not only a founder Iwama Shin-Shin Aiki Shuren-kai and a famous character in Aikido society but also known as a chef, painter, sculptor and calligraphist. But after his father’s death he dedicated most of his time in keeping and expanding his father’s legacy.
Founder of Iwama Shin-Shin Aiki Shuren-kai, dedicated his life to expand Aikido and preserving the spiritual and technical tradition of O’Sensei. And to target this aim he conducts many traditional seminars in United States, Japan, France, Germany, Russia, Portugal, Turkey, Australia, South America and etc. and also he trained many foreigners and now Aikido is being leant in many different countries.
Hitohiro Saito now lives with his wife and his children in Iwama, the center of true traditional Aikido.
